Worship and Sunday School Stats

After publishing the attendance statistics in my last post, I thought it would be good to share with you what the year to date figures are.

2007 worship - 709 YTD
2006 worship - 573 YTD

2007 Sunday school - 264 YTD
2006 Sunday school - 236 YTD

God is at work in this place. People are learning about the love and grace of Jesus Christ. Remember, we count people because people matter to God.

Hey, I love the quote about people mattering. I do not always think we stress relationships enough. I once saw a pole taken about which pastors where there favorites when reviewing their past and it always ended up being a pastor they connected with and had a relationship with.

God created us for relationships and I think that is, in part, why Hell seems so scary, the absence of a relationship with God.

Anyway, I like the post, I had never thought about examining numbers at a church in this way.

I just wish there was a way to measure spiritual growth in a particular body of believers, but that is probably just the task-oriented part of me trying to take over.

While I agree that we count people because people matter to God, I struggle with this one. How do you keep your motivation for counting people as understanding their relationship to God? How do you make sure that you don't count people to view them as a gauge of successful ministry? Over the last few weeks, I've struggled with being numbers-focused. How do you keep your counting motivation pure? Any suggestions would be helpful!

I knew that my comments would be long on my response to corben and matt so I just posted a separate post specifically to answer your comments. Keep the conversation going. Keep asking tough questions.

Hey shawn, glad you found my blog. All the best in getting your funding!
